Bank OZK traces its origins back to its inception as a small community bank in Jasper, Arkansas, in 1903. However, its transformative journey began in 1979 when George Gleason, a visionary 25-year-old attorney, acquired controlling interest in Bank of the Ozarks. At that time, the bank had $28 million in assets and two locations in rural Arkansas.
