Established in 1828 as the Bank of Centreville, later becoming Centreville National Bank, Centreville Bank has played a vital role in Rhode Island’s financial landscape. Founded by local leaders John Greene and Sylvester Knight, the bank has undergone transformations and expansions over the years. In 1993, Centreville National Bank and Centreville Savings Bank merged to form Centreville Bank.
Throughout its history, Centreville Bank has prioritized community engagement and charitable efforts. The Centreville Bank Charitable Foundation, established in 2008, has contributed over $1.5 million to local organizations by 2022. The bank has consistently adapted to technological advancements, introducing Interactive Teller Machines (ITMs) in 2018 and expanding its footprint in Rhode Island and Connecticut in 2019-2020 through branch openings and the acquisition of Putnam Bank.
In 2022, Centreville Bank received recognition as the Small Business Association (SBA) 504 Lender of the Year for its $10 million in small business loans. Looking ahead to 2023, the bank plans to open four new branches in Middletown, Newport, and Smithfield, Rhode Island, bringing its total locations to over 20 in Rhode Island and Connecticut. The year 2023 marks the 195th anniversary of Centreville Bank, reflecting its enduring commitment to fair and conservative banking, customer-focused evolution, and community support.
