In the summer of 1951, the vision for a credit union tailored to the needs of state employees was sparked by Mr. B.F. Hill, Chief Clerk of the Industrial Commission of Arizona. Collaborating closely with Clarene Slade from the accounting department, the groundwork for this idea was laid, and with the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Credit Unions, OneAZ Credit Union came into existence on October 31, 1951.
A significant figure in the founding of OneAZ Credit Union is The Honorable Rose Mofford, former governor of Arizona and a founding member. Governor Mofford played a pivotal role in garnering support for the credit union, leveraging her influence to spread the word among elected officials and state employees at all levels. Her dedication extended to serving as the chair of the board, contributing significantly to shaping the trajectory of the Credit Union.
Today, OneAZ Credit Union stands as the largest state-chartered federally insured credit union in Arizona, a testament to its enduring commitment to serving the financial needs of the community it was created to support.
